Continuing my fascination with looking into sometimes mysterious openings, looking out of and looking through (see also Doorways and Openings).
In 2019, I also made a decision (stuck to so far!) to focus very much on using materials of low environmental cost instead of lots of new canvas and paint. I started using 2nd hand picture frames as part of the art work itself. And left over fabrics which sometimes have small amounts, eg watered down, artists’ quality acrylics added to the colour or texture of the fabric.
I started the above ‘Interiors’ before we knew anything about Covid 19 – but lockdown made those scenes of people through windows so much more relevant!
The 6 works below were made before, during and after lockdown. See my page ‘Lockdown is where the home is’ for my major work during that time.
This is ‘Reaching Out, Letting Go Revisited’.
In the early ’90s, I participated in Philippa Blair’s workshop called ‘Off the Wall and Out of the Frame’. I loved her work that was very much out of the frame and often off the wall. The 3D piece I tried during the workshop didn’t succeed but I made a drawing of our model moving around the room with a shawl and later a loose canvas painting, from the drawing, called Reaching Out, Letting Go. So this is a much later and much more successful attempt at a 3D version – after years of lots of other work very much off the wall and out of the frame. As usual nowadays, it’s made mainly of reused materials. It’s 58x33x39cm and costs $200.
And also reusing stuff: ‘What are you looking at?’ 90x60cm $180
