We came, we found you, in 1982 –
Gold and blue.
We explored, lovingly, all over you –
Greens and golds of every hue.
I made Ode to Aotearoa after I had made the works in ‘Our Backyard’, about my love for this country Aotearoa/New Zealand, that Steve and I emigrated to in 1982, and as an installation people can walk through and enjoy.
I used hanging frames Steve had previously made me to suspend art works at exhibitions – and included Spirit of the Forest which had used one of those frames earlier. I used fabrics and haberdashery bought from Creative Junk, Christchurch, or left over from my own projects, painted in watered down artist’s quality acrylics.
Ode to Aotearoa is 206cm high and 122cm wide and you walk through a length of 360cm
It would make a lovely addition to a home, hospitality venue or other business and costs NZD3000.
I would also consider selling some parts of it separately: Spirit of the Forest (see Forest & Sea Gallery) is already a separate artwork in its own right (though would be included if you bought this installation as a whole); There are 4 semi-transparent ‘curtains’, each featuring a touch of scenery, and 2 end ‘curtains’. These could be used to partially screen or soften a part of your home or business. See the video and more photos below and please ask for more details.
Here are some close-up views of separate components that could become home or business screens:
The front entrance to the installation being part of a display at the entrance to my studio.
Can easily hang in a normal doorway to be seen from both sides. $325 with aluminium rail.
You can also see 1 of the side ‘curtains’ here.
The exit of the installation can also be a door screen or entrance into a section of a bigger room – looks best from this side. $275 with aluminium rail.
Right hand side of photo shows part of one of the side ‘curtains’.
